Audio fetishism can be a bit exhausting, and getting the perfect stereo/amplifier/speakers/headphones can feel like a lifelong search for the holy grail. Diefabrik’s “upcycled” retro speakers make a strong argument for throwing caution to the wind and just shelling out for their perfectly designed, one-of-a-kind devices.
Each model is a unique design – a vintage speaker box re-wired to include a simple volume knob and a 1/8th-inch cable which can plug directly into the headphone jack of your laptop/iPhone/etc… Besides looking gorgeous, the boxes are refurbished with high-end speakers, and a re-chargeable battery, so there’s no conflict between form and function. The only real issue is the prohibitive price-tag, since the cheapest available box goes for 190 EUR.
Even at such a steep price, it’s hard to say no to to such a perfectly designed device. Full credit to Diefabrik for basically leaving these retro speakers alone, and adding nothing beyond the bare essentials needed to make them useful in the present day.
