Listening to this Kindness album (only 3 years after Swinging Party and Gee Whiz) I get the feeling that Kindness isn’t all that kind.
Weirdly insecure disco, wholescale identity theft of Prince and Arthur Russel and a bunch of well meaning love songs that try and make it seem like the author is wise and magnaminous, when the reality is that he’s the type of Dalston Superstar that most people would cross the continent to avoid being in a long term relationship with. The record is only saved by the sneaking suspicion that that may be the point. A genius send up of retro party music, but so well put together that it almost eclipses the joke. Barley just got it’s soundtrack, fashionably late.
